    ASHE Update: Expected increases appear

    26/10/2022

The Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) has today been published by the ONS.  This is of course in the context of what has been a pretty gloomy economic outlook over recent months (and weeks!) and with claims inflation high on everyone’s agenda, we were expecting an increase.

This year the annual % change across all centiles for care workers is 7.7% median and 7.6% mean.

As we reported last year (with some surprise) the average % increase over the 60th-90th centiles was 2.61%.

The average % increase this time is 6.99% across the same centiles, reflecting the greater increase we were perhaps all anticipating.

For example, the 80th centile provisional figure for 2022 is £13.49 as compared to the revised figure for 2021 of £12.66, a 6.6% increase.

Again whether this still completely reflects the turbulence and percentage increases currently being quoted in the care sector in claims that we are facing on a day to day basis is one for debate!
