With demand in the insurance industry for punitive sanctions against fraudsters growing, Stratos Gatzouris (director of Complex Fraud) has written an article for last week's edition of Post Magazine, outlining the potential options for insurers.

The article briefly considers sanctions including:

• Prosecutions
• Civil claims in the tort of deceit (including exemplary damages)
• Contempt of court proceedings
  

Commenting on the article, Stratos said: "Increasingly, insurers are looking not only for an effective defence against suspect claims, but also the ability to assist them in taking the initiative and making an example of fraudsters when the opportunity arises."
