Lofstedt reviewIn March 2011 Professor Löfstedt, the Director of the King’s Centre for Risk Management at King’s College London, was asked by the Government to conduct an independent review of health and safety regulations.  The purpose of the review was to identify opportunities to simplify the rules in order to reduce the burden of health and safety legislation on UK business.

The review is perceived by the Government as a key stage in their ongoing strategy to make health and safety more digestible.

Professor Löfstedt’s report “Reclaiming health and safety for all: An independent review of health and safety regulation” was published on Monday 28 November 2011.  The Government’s response was published the same day.

The review makes 26 recommendations in total; some are intended to clarify and simplify existing regulatory requirements, whilst others aim to improve the way the regulations are applied and enforced.

Keoghs reviews the recommendations which we consider to be of most significance to our clients.  To view our client alert click here.
