Motor Crime

The number of people prosecuted for Careless Driving soared from 51,000 in 2008 to over 79,000 in 2009, a rise of 55%, demonstrating the increasingly hard line being taking towards drivers involved in road traffic accidents.

Penalties for motoring offences also reflect this - custodial sentences are more commonplace and fines are increasingly severe.   Drivers involved in accidents now potentially face very serious consequences.

Keoghs has a team of lawyers who are experienced in defending clients facing charges for all types of motor offence, including:

  • Driving without due care and attention
  • Causing death by careless driving
  • Causing death by dangerous driving
  • Drink/drug driving

Those facing prosecution by the police rarely understand the process or know what to expect.  We have represented hundreds of drivers in this situation.  As well as expert representation, we also provide sensitive guidance and support during this stressful time.

Knowledgeable representation always pays dividends
The importance of skilled legal representation at the earliest opportunity cannot be overestimated.  Our lawyers specialise in motor prosecutions and do not deal with any other criminal offences, so they have a depth of knowledge that duty solicitors cannot match.

Drivers who we represent benefit from expert guidance and, ultimately, reduced penalties.

Insurers, who fund our representation, benefit by saving money. In the last 3 years we have successfully recovered almost £400,000 in costs from central funds.  Also, successful defence of a prosecution has a definite impact on any associated civil claims, often making them go away altogether.
