Fraudulent claims

We were one of the first law firms to introduce an insurance fraud team, back in 1998. This team has grown to over 100 full time staff located across our two offices. We are a market leader in this field.

We work with insurers primarily, but also have considerable experience of advising self insured companies and corporate clients. We can help you to define, implement and improve your anti-fraud strategies and processes so that you are better equipped to identify and fight fraudulent claims.

How we can help

We provide pre- and post- litigation advice for suspected fraud cases across all types of claim. We help clients to identify areas of fraud risk and implement anti-fraud strategies and best practice templates for handling suspicious claims.

We have invested heavily in our fraud department and in the skills, tools and systems that we have developed for fighting insurance fraud. We have a proven track record in this field.

Services

  • Fraud detection and handling procedures - providing indicators and referral checklists to pick out suspicious claims, and tactics for file handling thereafter.
  • Fraud strategies - defining, developing and reviewing your fraud strategies.
  • Fraud rings - identification, investigation and co-ordination of connected claims.
  • Low Speed Impact claims where the genuine risk of injury appears unlikely due to the minimal nature of the collision.
  • Intelligence, research and analysis - desktop investigation and analysis of suspicious claims.
  • Training - making claims handlers more fraud aware.

Benefits

A powerful deterrent. We can help you to tackle exaggerated and fraudulent claims, thereby providing a strong message to your policyholders or your workforce that such claims will be stopped, whilst genuine claims will continue to be dealt with.

Cost savings. We bring substantial bottom-line benefits to all who use our fraud services, with savings running into millions of pounds. We are also skilled in recovering money after a claim has been paid.

Technical expertise. We have an experienced team of lawyers who understand the nature of the cases they handle. For example, our lawyers dealing with fraudulent Employers' / Public Liability claims are also specialists in mainstream ‘liability’ work. This means that they have an excellent understanding of the technical issues and mechanics of workplace / public accident claims. Combined with their anti-fraud ‘know-how’ they are able to add demonstrable value to the claims process.

Thought leadership. Members of the team regularly lecture and write articles about insurance fraud. We have also co-written a book called “Fraudulent and Exaggerated Claims in Personal Injury”, published by XPL Law in October 2006. This is a technical reference guide for lawyers, claims handlers and anyone who deals with fraudulent claims.
