Andrew Auchterlounie
Operations Director
Counter-Fraud Services (CFS) division
My role as Operations Director means that I am responsible for the day-to-day internal management of the CFS division. Basically, I have to make certain that we have enough people, working to the best of their ability, and delivering - hopefully bettering - the results that our clients expect.
Capacity planning is a big part of the role, balancing the number of staff employed with current and anticipated caseloads. I need to make sure that people have sufficient work, but are not overloaded with cases (though I doubt whether some of the team would agree!)
I also monitor the quality of the work we deliver and work closely with our Technical Director to ensure that cases are reviewed and audited regularly and the results analysed.
I am part of Keoghs’ Operational Management Group and once a month we meet to review operational issues within each division and across the business as a whole.
If you have a talent or an interest in a certain area, there is fantastic support available to help you develop
I started at Keoghs as a trainee in September 2000 and when I qualified in 2002 I was offered a position in the fraud division.
After 3 years or so handling fraud files, I became a team leader so took on responsibility for supervising and managing a fraud team.
After 4 years as a team leader I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to work closely with the then Operations Director for CFS. Through this experience I was then able to progress to take on this role myself.
2010 marked my 10th anniversary at Keoghs. I’ve seen a huge amount of change during that time but I’m still here and still smiling (well, most of the time!) which speaks volumes.
Keoghs has provided me with a career not just a job. I have worked my way up through the ranks from trainee to solicitor to associate and finally partner in 2009. I am an example of how you can progress if you have the ambition and support which Keoghs offers.
If you have a talent or an interest in a certain area, there is fantastic support available to help you develop. There are courses and formal learning routes open for all staff, and more now than ever before. I’ve done my fair share of these, however I think I have probably learnt the most from the people around me. There are a lot of great people here who I have worked for and with, and they have taught me an enormous amount. New issues crop up every week, as do some of the same old challenges, but there is a very capable team of people around to help me if and when I need it.
