Age Discrimination Free Seminar - 13/07/2006

Age Discrimination - Are you Ready?

Afternoon Seminar Programme:

The Age Discrimination Regulations come into force on 1st October 2006 but there is much to do to prepare for their introduction. Is your organisation ready? The introduction of these regulations will mean that people can no longer be denied employment on the grounds of age. Workers of all ages will have an equal chance of training and promotion and will have the right to request to continue working beyond the age of 65.

So what will this mean for you and your company?

The legislation outlaws all forms of discrimination and harassment on the grounds of age in a similar way to sex, race and disability discrimination legislation. The difference is that employers guilty of age discrimination may escape liability if they can show it is for a good reason.

Employers are urged to review their current policies and procedures, especially those relating to recruitment, service related benefits and retirement to determine whether any changes are necessary to ensure compliance.

The Seminar

The seminar will be presented by experts from the employment team at Keoghs Solicitors.

They will explain the legislation in detail, exploring its application in a practical context and demonstrating ways to ensure compliance in company policies and procedures.

Who should Attend?

The Law relating to discrimination is fundamental to all businesses and employees. Directors and Managers in particular should be aware of the implications and actions that need to be taken.

Can you afford not to listen?

In a survey carried out by the EU Commission in May 2003 seven out of ten Respondents said they would complain to an employment tribunal if they were discriminated against on the grounds of age. Since the introduction of age discrimination legislation in Ireland, compensation has been awarded equivalent to between £300 and £50,000.

Business Benefits

By 2010 40% of the workforce will be aged 45 and over. Reviewing your employment practices to comply with the age discrimination regulations will ensure that your organisation retains competitive advantage in the marketplace by reducing recruitment and training costs, increasing staff morale and productivity.

…are you sure you are doing enough to protect your organisation?
